This does not seem reasonable. The hood is there to evacuate the smoke and heat and odors. It would make no sense with an activated carbon filter. There would be smoke in the kitchen, the smoke would blow.
I have filters and they work, but not the same as ventilation to the outside, depending on the brand of the hood, do Lowes and only on the hood and test it before they give work re - aeration of the bell
